TIME:	Friday, March 30th: 6:30pm to 8:30pm (special 2 hour class) Saturday, March 31st: 3:00pm to 8:00 pm (4 hours instruction plus breaks) Sunday, April 1st: 12:00noon to 5:00 pm (4 hours instruction plus breaks)

Don't miss the opportunity for an up-close and intensive djembe workshop with Master Drummer Mamady Keita. Focus will be on building rhythms from the dunun (bass drum) section on up to the supporting and lead djembes. This extended format allows Mamady to stretch out into variations, songs, and breaks which accompany the rhythms. The only prerequisite is that all participants have played djembe for at least 1 year and have clear pronunciation of bass-tones-slaps.

A Brief Background on Mamady Keita:

Mamady Keita is considered by many to be the world's best djembe player--setting the standard by which other professionals are measured. A child prodigy djembe player in his native country of Guinea, Mamady, at the age of seven, played in the film, Africa Dance, with Harry Belafonte. He was selected for the Ballet National Djoliba when he was 14, and became its artistic director in 1979. At 23, he was named "Best Drummer in Africa" at the Pan-African Festival in Algers, and in 1991 was the central figure in Laurent Chevalier's documentary film, Djembefola. He has been based in Belgium since 1988 where he founded his school of percussion, Tam Tam Mandingue, which now has schools in France, Germany, Japan and the United States. Mamady has recorded over 12 CDs videos, and has co-authored the definitive book, "A Life for the Djembe".
